Effect of synergistic engine technologies for 48 V mild hybrid electric vehicles

48 V mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs) are considered to the prospective near-term solution for cost-effective vehicle electrification. In this study, fuel consumption improvement of various synergistic engine technologies was experimentally investigated with a P0 hybridization. The details application and optimization each technology were effect quantitatively identified. A combination including high compression ratio, late intake valve closing strategy, tumble flow, supercharging exhaust gas recirculation applied 1.4 L PFI engine. Engine test results confirmed that could be significantly improved by these technologies, maximum power torque increased as well. showed economy 10%. EGR enhance 5.5% downspeeding resulted in 4.5% improvement. These improvements through greater than hybridization which verified enhancement. result suggests will highly effective improving efficiency MHEV.
